Ok before you say anything or respond at all read my whole message. So I can't find the Diablo 2 save files anywhere on my laptop. I downloaded Diablo 2 through battlenet.com, and I installed both Diablo 2 and LOD expansion. Once I had it installed I created a save folder in the Diablo 2 directory (Where you normally find you save files), and I copied over my save files the last time I played Diablo 2. So I played Diablo 2 and got pretty far with my new character. Then I decided I wanted to play Diablo 2 on my Desktop instead of the laptop. So I cut and pasted over my save files and when I played with the save files on my desktop I find out that it's the original files that I through on my laptop originally. So I go back over to my laptop and there are no save files in the save folder in the Diablo 2 directory, so I delete the 'Save' folder. But once I load up and try to play Diablo 2 again..ALL my characters are there, the new ones that I had started playing with on the laptop. So I figured that maybe there are saved somewhere else on my laptop. NOPE..there are no where to be found. I searched my HDD for .ds2 files (which is the format of the save files) and I couldn't find anything, so then I typed the character name with .ds2 and still nothing. Then I searched the registry files and I found zero save files (.ds2) there either. Then I looked in 'My documents'..still nothing, then I looked in Roaming/Local/LocalLow and still nothing, I even looked through all the hidden folders and there isn't even a Diablo 2 folder anywhere to be found. The ONLY Diablo 2 files that I can find on my computer is in C:Program Files(x86)/Diablo II/. Just a bunch of .dll and .mpw and .exe files. I even tried making a new character and seeing if it would make the 'Save' folder and through that character in that folder, under the Diablo 2 directory. I made a new character and NOPE..it's not where I thought it was and I can't figure out where it is at all either. So can someone tell me WHERE are the Diablo 2 :LOD save files on Windows 7 x64 bit, when I had downloaded it from Battlenet.com Please can someone help me with this, it's pointless to keep playing if I am never going to be able to back-up these new save files of these new characters. P.S. To remind people, I can play with those characters in the game. They get saved and all my new armor is on the character each time I open and play the game, so it has to be saving somewhere..I mean I even disconnected my internet to see if it was saving them over the internet some how. - D2 Hero Editor 1.14d

I will say I did find them in Windows 8.1 in the 'Saved Games': (Opgeslagen Spellen) folder.
I was like, WHAT THE HELL.
Now it is not posting my comment.

Why? Why would they move the save folder to such a strange location? And undocumented as well, really? This is the kinda stuff that bothers me deeply.

i think it was. one of the features did literally state that it will migrate the saved characters to a different location to prevent issues with administrative mode.
How can I retrieve those file saves blizzard?
Try search *.d2s files.

I'm having the exact same problem. I have my saves, but can't understand a lot of the people talking on this board because nobody's being clear about whether they're referring to Mac or PC.
I use a PC, and am on Windows 10. Where should I copy my saves to so that Diablo II can see them?
Thanks.

FireFaery,
Under Windows 10, starting with version 1.14a, the Diablo II save folder is now located at: C:UsersWindows User nameSavesDiabloII
You can verify this by inspecting the NewSavePath entry in the following registry key: (note) The Windows Registry Editor 'Regedit' is used for this

Figured it out. Here's a link here on Battle.net for anyone that's reading this post, and also found it confusing..
http://us.battle.net/forums/en/bnet/topic/20742834211
Here's the real solution for those of us that use a real PC, and not a Mac running Windows (I have an iPad, so I'm not criticizing anyone for using Mac; it's just that in my humble opinion it's honestly a little silly to be running Windows on Mac. If you need Windows that badly, build a cheap PC.)
Real Solution:
1 - Go to your Diablo II Folder under 'C:Program Files (x86)' if you're running 64 bit Windows. 32-bit Users go to 'C:Program Files' .
2 - Open your Diablo II Folder and look for a folder called 'save'
3 - Go to your user profile folder by either clicking your user icon on the desktop or going to your user name path directly ( i.e. 'C:Users[YOURUSERNAME]Saved Games' )
4 - If you do NOT see a folder named 'Diablo II' make a new folder and call it 'Diablo II' (without the quotes).
5 - Copy ALL of the files from 'C:Program Files (x86)Diablo IIsave ' [ ..or 'C:Program FilesDiablo IIsave' for 32-bit users ] to the new Diablo II folder.
NOTE: In some cases patching Diablo II (happened to me, but I backed up before I upgraded to Windows 10 and then patching Diablo II) will cause the 'save' folder under the Program Files (x86)Diablo II to be deleted. If you have a hard drive backup with your information on it, you can still put the files in the 'save' folder into the new location because the files are completely portable.
Hope this helps people. I too have a 'virtual store' folder under my user profile, but it has no effect on the save games. The solution turned out to be much simpler than the conversation here would have lead many to believe.
Enjoy. :D

Thank you Omrakos;
I was unsure as to the new path in the registry, so I just updated my system to use the older save folder.
Updating the registry isn't the type of advice I'm typically willing to bring up because I'm very cautious about suggesting to people they go into the registry, but thank you because you definitely saved me a lot of checking through various registry entries to see if I could change the path back.
I tested it, and works great.
Thank you so much Omrakos. :D

please help me beceuse i want to reinstal my win 10 and wanted to copy my save file so i can use again in new win 10
I found out why i couldn't see the 'saved games' folder.
I use a Swedish Windows 10. The folder is called 'sparade spel'.
If you write 'C:UsersYourUserNameSaved games' in the location bar, you will find your characters.
Windows renamed the 'Saved games' folder to something else if you're using a non-english version of windows.

I have looked in the save folder in my Diablo 2 folder and also in the Saved games folder but they are both empty. I have hidden files/folders showing as well and I still can't see them. What's the deal?
